Trail Report – Bunsee Trace to teak fields & Morne Diablo beach - January 11th, 2009

This trail was intended to be a nice fairly simple ‘warm up’ trail since it was recently done by a couple of the guys a few months ago. At that time the trail was a nice driving grade 2/3; a couple of rainy months made this a grade 3/4.

Eight jeeps meet at the G&N Mall opposite Suchit Trace. Scruitineer Roy was firm in his inspection (for me at least) and after all the inspection was done we left at 8.35am heading into Rock Road via Penal Junction. We made a short stop to say hello to former member Wayne, also the proud owner of a Daihatsu F20 ‘Scat’ jeep. At this point David caught up with us driving his highly modified Toyota Hilux Vigo. We soon entered the scenic Bunsee Trace and drove to the end where our trail starts.

Before the start, we gathered for a safety briefing and Roy was appointed to ride along and guide new member Anil on his first club run. The trail started with a fairly soft spot and we all made our own assessment and discussed the best route. At this point David said goodbye and turned back since he was driving on regular road tyres. Despite the challenges of the day we managed our time and risk carefully, Roland’s new tyres worked well and new member Anil performed very well. It was a very nice start to our 2009 events. The rest of the story is in the pictures below.
