Off Roading in Barbados

A Trini’s Off-Road Experience in Barbados.

It all started off on a hot Sunday morning where host Anthony King picked me up bright an early at the hotel to take in the local offroading scene. We promptly headed down to Rodney’s place where I met up with a few of the guys and got to inspect Dave’s mighty V6 Sammy and Rodney’s powerfull V8 Pajero on 38’s, as well as trade a few stickers with Von and the other guys.

Then it was off to the gas station where we met with the rest of the crew before heading to Uncle Wilbhurs trail.

The first one to get stuck was Dave in this slushy water soaked section at the bottom of a really challenging hill.

The conditions were so bad a decision was made to turn around and head to another section, where the guys displayed excellent offroading skills in negotiating the various muddy hills, slopes and trees.

Then in the distance we heard the rumblings of a V8 and realized Rodney was coming in to meet us. He had some major carb problems and unfortunately had to leave the trail.

A quick breather as we hit tarmac. Then it was off to a rocky river bed to continue another section of the trail. Here we saw serious negotiating skills between and over the rocks and slippery river bed. Some of the less outfitted Zuk drivers pushed their vehicles hard to ensure they successfully navigated the course. Quite impressive driving for minimal modifications!

There was only one stick where this fellow sank beyond his diff’s in this soft loose sand and had to be recovered by Dave.

Dave realizing the camera on, decided to pull him out with some show and ended up tearing off his rear bumper and scattering the viewers into the river. (but he did recover the stuck Zuk successfully!)

After much laughs and picong we headed on further but had to exit by Ras land. Here we saw an impressive display from these two fellows on how to park a 4x4.

Then it was up and over this final bank that gave us some good laughs and saw some skillful driving, and one poor soul, (I wouldn’t mention your name Dave!) who continued to loose body parts. (I think he had the wrong impression of my video footage and tried to perform a vehicle striptease:-!) I unfortunately had to leave for the airport at this point as it was getting too close to my flight time. Sorry I could not get in more shots of all the other great 4x4’s, next time hopefully!

Thanks again to the Offroading Crew in Barbados that hosted me on a GREAT Trail and to mad man Anthony, Dave and Rodney for getting me back to the airport in time for lift off.  Great trail folks and I look forward to trailing again in Barbados really soon.

Happy Trails....Grazer
