Now you have to understand that when the T&T Off Road Club goes on a run, there is bound to be adventures, spills and excitement. Often this takes the form of members sinking up to their half shafts in some gooey quagmire, or trying to slide sideways into a nicely maintained Caroni ditch. But when the run is proceeding smoothly, with no real excitement it takes an exceptional Events Manager to provide the sort of action we had today. Real on and you will see what I mean.
The day started well enough with members from North and South gathering at
UWI South Gate.
..of course there were some members talking about the size of the one that
got away....
...while others tried to impress the fairer sex with their technical
knowledge.
But all in all the run to Madamas proceeded smoothly except for Roy who decided to whip up business for his mechanic shop by shutting down every 10 minutes and then showing everyone how quickly he could get his motor going again.
We climbed up through the beautiful valley of Lopinot before descending to a village lost in time called Madamas. From there we wended our way past tumbling streams, over forestry logging tracks and eventually to the end of the Madamas trail.
Being a "one way in and same way out trail" we all had to wait while Rolland took his fourth lunch break before we turned the vehicles round and headed back to the Madamas waterfall a break.
It was then our Events manager decided that enough uneventfulness was enough! Time to have some action around here...and action we had......Check out these pictures.
Now word has it that to be recognised Internationally in the secret "Events Manager's Lodge" you have to do something really amazing, like rolling your Suzuki at 2 mph on a Grade 2 trail while coming down the gentlest of inclines.
Apparently you get extra points if you have your wife in the vehicle at the same time!
Picture Perfect...as only our Keith can do it.
But all good things must come to an end and the Mighty Barrie with his young bulldozer made short work of first pulling the Zuki onto its side...
The Club's St. Bernard....at work
and then after a change of rope positions, pulling it completely upright.
What was even more amazing, (and which leads many of us to think Keith has been practising this at home) was his vehicle started on the first tumble and then according to Dr. Barrie it "idled like a public servant".
So my friends another day in the life of the T&T Off Road Club came to an end. For years men will gather in rum shops to speak in hushed tones saying "He was only doing 2mph you know!" And when we get old we can bounce our grandchildren on our knees and tell them of the sort of dedication our Events Manager displayed today.
................Thanks you Keith....................
